ADVANCE SIGNAL GENERATORS IN ANTARCTIC TEMPERATURES
Posted by STEVE M on
A very topical blog entry this as I sit indoors trying to keep warm by burning wooden radio cabinets and PX4 boxes. Typing speedily to hold my shivers at bay due to an outside temperature of -2 degrees C and an internal one scarcely higher - PX4 boxes don't burn for long and we haven't had enough orders this month to pay for the boiler to be turned on!
Here you can see a 1955 advertisement for the venerable Advance E2 sig gen which followed Sir Vivian Fuchs and Sir Edmund Hilary on their travails during the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition (CTAE) of 1955–1958.
What did they use it for I hear you ask, well its obvious, its sturdy construction and longevity made it ideal for icebreaking duties!!!!!
