BATTLE OF THE BULGE - THAT WW2 FILM WITH ALL YANK TANKS!
Posted by STEVE M on
Just watched this film after many years and I do know that many people have mentioned the use by Colonel Hessler of a Hallicrafters SX28 in his command caravan - nice to see such a pretty Allied receiver being used as a transmitter by a Wermacht tank commander!! However, no-one seems to have ever commented on the fact that both sides appear to use Shure T-17 microphones. Even more horrendous is the Telly Savalas character driving around in a tank with most of the mantle, turret and gun 'shot away' whilst two R1555 have miraculously survived after having been stolen...

Hopefully you will visit us here at Mullard Magic from time to time so please be sure to book mark us for your convenience. That said, please be sure you input or capture the correct URL or else you may inadvertently visit our sister site Mallard Magic. Now although this is a very nice site indeed, and I am partial to the odd Muscovy Duck or even a Canada Goose. WAS THE MARKETING MANAGER AT FURZEHILL AN EX LANCASTER BOMBER CREW MEMBER?
Posted by STEVE M on
Just look at this advert from 1941 from Furzehill. Just look at this device incorporated into an advertisement that shows the precision delivery of a bomb down the chimney of a Boche factory, stirring stuff... but look close, for doesn't the contraption dangling from the (Halifax?) bomber remind you of something?....... what, not even the drop lead from a R1155/A1134 Lancaster/Halifax intercom system - it does to me and here's a photo to remind you. I reckon their marketing person was a member of a Lanc. crew to have drawn this advertisement in 1941 - what do you think? For...

Posted by STEVE M on
An e-mail landed this morning from a customer wanting to know what Jones plugs he would need for his R1155 and T1154. I didn't ask whether or not his station had em all ripped out, however, here is a nice little aide memoir to anyone needing to remind themselves of pin configurations of these connectors for this particular use BUT don't forget that shown below are the CHASSIS configurations and that you need the corresponding connector ie plug to socket & socket to plug to match....

I WANT A LANCASTER BOMBER RADIO
Posted by STEVE MYCIUNKA on
So you want a Lancaster bomber radio huh, well, for many the R1155 and accompanying T1154 are often the collectors holy grail, that said, unlike the Lanc pictured below, not all Lancasters were fitted with this radio combo:- Many Canadian Lancasters of course were fitted with the famed Bendix RA10 - which like the R1155 did double duty as both HF receiver and DF set whilst the transmission side was taken care of by the partner Bendix TA12 transmitter and a very fine sight they appeared with their functional grey dials and slightly smaller case sizing and I reckon this...
