     Has there ever been a more iconic radio than the 'Round Ekco' so called. because of its shape, sure Telefunken Barcelona did a round radio in limited numbers for the indigenous market but we can excuse that.  Below, I list a few technical specifications for the five round Ekco models: - EKCO REFERENCE SPECIFICATION   AD36 A LW/MW tuned radio frequency, TRF with 4 valves, introduced 1935 AD65 A LW/MW superhet with 4 valves, introduced 1934 AD75 A LW/MW superhet with 5 valves, introduced 1940 AC76 An AC mains  LW/MW superhet with 5 valves, introduced 1935 A22 An AC mains  LW/MW/SW superhet with 5 valves, introduced...

  Jose from Soller in Majorca contacted me today asking what valves his trusty Ekco needed and that he was searching for Mullard valves.  I told him that I would come and have a look and identify them for him but that I  would need a week's free board and lodgings - ha-ha, said he.    Realising I was on a 'no hoper 'with this approach, I sorted him out some valve data and then thought, well, it's about time we had another blog entry, so, here's my freshly prepared valve line up list for many Post War and well known AC, DC & universal mains...

I did titter when I saw the above illustration from a 1950s comic book, what a treat to see the Man With an Electronic Brain and let me tell you, I have met and known a few numpties who would benefit from some electronic augmentation too. But wait a minute, like me, are you thinking that the electronic brain looks rather similar?  Could it be... yes, I think it is, what do you think........? Well beat me on the bottom with a copy of Radio Bygones magazine, that electronic brain bears more than a passing resemblance to the Defiant M900...
