How I chortled when I saw this DIY article from 1955, no such thing as  Corgi and its successor the Gas Safe Register then!  I also remember during my childhood, some ten years later when someone went looking for a gas leak in my hometown with disastrous results...........  still, he shouldn't really have used a lit Swan Vesta as a light source though.
