USES FOR SLINKY - NOT JUST FOR ANTENNA THOUGH
Posted by STEVE MYCIUNKA on
Slinky is a toy that was invented and developed by naval engineer Richard T James 1943 and first shown to the waiting World at Gimbels department store in Philadelphia USA in November 1945. Not surprisingly, the toy was a hit, selling its entire inventory of 400 units in ninety minutes. James and his wife Betty manufactured Slinky and several related toys such as the Slinky Dog and Suzie, the Slinky Worm. In 1960, James' wife Betty became president of James Industries, and, in 1964, moved the operation to Hollidaysberg Pensylvania In 1998, Betty James sold the company to Poof Products, Inc.. CHRISTMAS PREPARATIONS IN THE MULLARD MAGIC HOUSEHOLD, BAH HUMBUG

Ho ho ho, it's that time again, to the loft I was sent by Mrs Mullard Magic to get the tree down so we can put it up. Thereafter came a sequence of huffing, puffing, muttering and sighing which was a wonder to behold as you can see from the photo below: - You see, our (vintage) serially connected christmas lights had ceased to work. Mrs Mullard decided enough was enough and we went on a fraught foray to our local shopping centre to get some new whiz-bang lights. Of course, the ones I wanted were NOT SUITABLE, can't think why:- Just...

Following on from my recent lighthearted posting in my capacitor sales section, I had a customer anxiously enquiring where he could buy the featured capacitor : - "It's a bead condenser, model AB 619. It has a breakdown voltage of 33,000 volts. A diamond drill won't touch it. It comes from a mysterious vendor called Electronics Service, Unit No. 16. There's no charge and no return address. The catalog pages are made of some kind of metal." These famous words are of course from the landmark sci-fi film, This Island Earth from 1955 directed by Joseph Newman & Jack Arnold. Based...

IT'S A WOMAN'S WAR TOO - JOIN THE WAVES

I just love this WW2 American poster which shows a rather lovely lady wireless operator sending morse - and with a bug key too. The keen eyed and acquisitive collectors of morse keys amongst us will be saying, is it a TR McElroy or Vibroplex cos it's definitely not an (Post war) Eddystone bug! For me, it's the domed shape of the rear pivot cradle that gives the game away for me as I think the key is in actuality a Bunnell Martin Flash Bug. Whatever, why not ava look at the Mullard Magic Morse offerings here and here
