On offer today, we have an RCA 5965 - this industrial tube is similar in characteristics to an ECC81/12AT7 but with a slightly lower gain which manifests as an ultra low noise floor. 

To use a 5965 in place of an ECC81 is akin to using a 5751 in place of an ECC83.        Carrying good white print, it tests as excellent using my AVO Valve Characteristic Meter VCM163 with the following results: At Va = 250V Vg = -2.0V 

Section 1: Ia = 8.0 mA; gm = 7.6 mA/V

Section 2: Ia = 7.6 mA; gm = 7.7 mA/V

The specification for a new/100% emission valve is:

Ia = 8.2 mA; gm = 6.5 mA/V

As you can see, this result show a strong valve with excellent matching of each triode section within the envelope.
