When I worra lad many years ago, we worldly wise (real or aspirational!!!) would snigger knowingly about a "Packet of Three" however, in 1938, Cornell-Dubilier exhorted customers to always carry a packet of ten to take care of every service requirement! Impressive huh? It is generally a sign of advancing age when policemen start to appear very young to the viewer, however, another sign is when "street slang" or "urban patois" takes on a different meaning. Imagine my surprise then to find that these days, a "Packet of Three" refers not to a packet of sturdy rubber overcoats for use...
