DONALD TRUMP - IS HE A VINTAGE RADIO COLLECTOR WITH A PENCHANT FOR EARLY PHILIPS SETS?

Posted by STEVE M on

We hear so much about Donald Trump but how many of you realised that he liked early Philips sets - not many I'll bet.   Could this be true or another piece of fake news.   You need irrefutable evidence to make such claims surely, and here it is, look closely at the following photograph:-

As you can see quite clearly, we have a young Donald Trump, in his underpants standing atop a Philips 2531.

The Philips 2531 was quite a technological marvel at introduction in 1930, lasting for a production run of two years in which 42000 units were manufactured.  Colloquially known amongst European collectors as "The small bread-bin" and is a quite sought after device today.  And why not, as an impressive slice of bakelite, containing a jewel like TRF receiver with a four valve line up in a small footprint albeit at a 8kg mass.

As the following video attests,, this is a lovely little radio which really underscores Donald's good taste and discernment in the field of vintage radio collecting.

Alas, I have to admit that the 45th President of the United States was merely a twinkle in Fred's eye when the Philips Bulletin pictured was printed and he didn't arrive until 15 years later on 14th June 1946.
