RESISTOR COLOUR CODE OR CASUAL COLOURISM
Share
Aaaah, Easter, I remember this time of year some 35 years ago and an Easter Wedding..........before Mrs Mullard Magic had curlers and a beard, how things have changed.
Talking of change, I hear that this month that Hot Cross Buns have given way to Buns - sans cross and not hot because such a religious symbol may offend people who believe the right thing to do is salting crops and cutting off hands, heads and todgers (listed in order of importance). How dare Jesus have ignored inclusivity and used the phrases “take up their cross” and “carry his cross”. in Mark 8:34, Mark 10:21, Matthew 10:38, Matthew 16:24, Luke 14:27? It's truly shocking in symbolising Christianic values of sacrifice, self denial and discipline. Talking of cutting actions, I wonder what Henry VIII would have thought of that? I will be writing to the Archbishop of Canterbury or maybe even Tubs from the League of Gentleman at the same time!
Anyhow, I digress and need to go back to the true purpose of this post which features the Snowflake Resistor Colour Chart which prevents a large swathe of the World populace from being offended as it makes no reference in words to colour and only goes up to 820R thus offending nobody but me Please remember, you saw it here first:-

I began to fret about Tip Dot and Spot and whether or not this could be construed as offensive and then went on to consider those hearty mnemonics we use to remember our resistor colour code, taught at bent knee (oooo-errr this has a different meaning these days too) just like the 12 times table.
Who remembers: -
Black Beetles Running On Your Garden Bringing Very Good Weather
There again it maybe not a problem as Black is an acceptable descriptor these days unlike Coloured which Is not. Myself, I used to like coloured pencils but now prefer crayons like Angela Rayner.
With a gushing outpouring of relief, I can now safely postulate on who remembers the alternative mnemonic and hope that incensed, hysterical cries of racial stereotypification are not proferred: -
Black Boys Ravish Our Young Girls But Violet Goes Willingly
This one was taught to me in the late 1970s with gales of laughter courtesy of Eric, a Jamaican TV Engineer from Bingley in West Yorkshire. Bet this would go down well in Downton Abbey!!!
I will close with a final thought provoking fact, did you know that when using the what3words location tool, inputting resistor.colour.code does not indicate a location anywhere on Earth, spooky huh.
That's all folks!
