In 1923,  brothers Otto and Willy Gruber founded a joint company. The brothers’ first traded in screws and small metal parts under the name Otto Gruber & Co., but soon started selling compressors and lift platforms and with the experience gained in pneumatics and hydraulics, in 1938 started to sell their vulcanising products under the ReMa Tip-Top brand.  Indfeed the vulcanisation products take their name from events at a product trial where Willy Gruber exclaimed: "This is tip-top!" and thus created the name !

The lithographed artwork you see in this box, of size 30 x 24 x 9 cm dates from 1938, however, this actual tin is labelled product of W Germany on the edge of the lid so must be a 1960s variant.   Whatever, I am sure you agree, the artwork is stunning and this box, which wears it's scars with pride would make a wonderful man cave or loft apartment objet d'art - and a useful thinbg too as you can keep stuff in it.
