Post Office Meter Multi-range 12C/1 the BBC & GPO meter made by SEI
Post Office Meter Multi-range 12C/1 THE BBC & GPO METER Well here's a nice thing and scarce too and you will nt find much about this meter type on the net either, so, what is it?
OK, it's a GPO Meter Multi-range 12C/1, the GPO didn't want their engineers encumbered with a large lump such as an AVO 8 but wanted similar quality and performance so they approached AVO who made a variant of the AVO 72 especially for the GPO - and also the BBC! These are lovely meters and are from a time when the GPO were not cost cutting moving their engineer meters from AVO to the likes of the cheaper and some might say less well made offerings by Taylor (still AVO) and Robin. This instrument is made by a division of GEC - Salford Electrical Engineering, (SEI) and is of a build quality that is on a par with AVO.
For thus "valve guys" you will not the 20K/V meter impedance - just like an AVO 8. This example bears a couple of small scars on the top edge that bear testimony to its professional life but that said, these are minor and the remaining cosmetics are superb with a bright shiny case and unspoilt switch dial and escutcheon plate. The battery box is clean and has space for an AA cell ( for bottom two impedance ranges) and a B154/V74PX (15V for the top impedance range) - these batteries are not supplied.. We have tested all ranges and the meter works and displays with good accuracy. The meter comes complete with a pair of leads.
