MINT CONDITION GROUND POWER UNIT 301 10K/946 FOR RAF SPITFIRE RADIO TR1196
What we have on offer today is something rather special, it's POWER UNIT 301, 10K/946, Comprising of a 200-260V 50Hz input to provide as output, 6.3VAC @ 2.8A; 24-28VDC @ 0.3A; 230VDC @ 70mA and as such is the specified ground power supply for the TR1196*
This particular example is in mint unissued condition with a rack handle supplied as well - very scarce to begin with and even scarcer in this superb condition.
* About the TR1196
The TR 1196 is a 4 channel HF Transmitter - Receiver produced for R.A.F use during WW2. The sets were designed for remote control in aircraft and were somewhat limited in their usefulness after the war, when they were released in large numbers with most were reduced to parts.
TR1196 Transceiver, 4.3MHz-6.7MHz in maximum of four spot Xtal channels, with 465kHz IF. Airborne equipment designed originally for F.A.A with later B and C versions for Coastal Command with special channel A 2.41MHz. Can be used with A1134 for multi-seat aircraft. Consists of Tx Type 22 (10R/23); Rx Type 25 (10P/11); 12V PU Type 104 (10K/238) for TR1196A (10D/369) or 24V PU Type 87 (10K/201) for TR1196 (10D/325).
Valves in Tx: VR91, VT501, VT52
Valves in Rx: 2xVR53, VR57, 2xVR56, VR55
Modular construction was used, with a base chassis (types 15/16) which held the bandswitch mechanism, output transformer and all internal/external inter connections, a transmitter chassis (types 22/49), a receiver chassis (types 25/73).
The receiver was a 5 valve superhet operating in AM & CW modes and requiring 275v at 35 ma for HT and 6.3v at 1.2A for the heater supply. The IF was 460 Kc/s. Crystals ran on their fundamental frequencies. Audio output was via headphones, via an output transformer, which had provision to match at 20k ohms, 600 ohms or 150 ohms. The output was designed for connecting headsets in parallel.
